What is the present state of support of legacy DTS for 35mm and 70mm film? Creation of timecode and discs for upcoming releases? reprints of existing titles?

Datasat still owns the IP - DTS has not been involved in anything involving film sound (apart from the DTS:X initiative for D-Cinema) since they sold their cinema division to Datasat in 2008.

Ongoing legacy soundtrack business is being handled under license by a company called Inventure Studios in Los Angeles, which is sort of the last man standing for 35mm and 70mm optical track production.

I wonder if DTS' new owners will be a little more on the ball when it comes to promoting and providing information about DTS-X. Supposedly DTS-X is getting installed in some commercial theaters. But there is no list theater locations with DTS-X equipped on one or more screens. The only thing a web site visitor gets is a few theater chain logos, which basically means very little.

Dolby's web site at least has an interactive map showing theater locations with screens equipped with Atmos, Dolby 3D or their branding of 7.1 surround. It still doesn't list which screens in each theater location are equipped, but showing a theater location is at least better than nothing.

DTS:X has been around since early 2015. I'm glad they're finally listing a few theatrical releases with DTS:X audio on their web site (rather than just home theater stuff). But they still don't have a locations map showing which theaters are capable of playing movies with DTS:X audio.

Their DTS:X page shows a number of theater chain logos, such as Regal, Carmike/Muvico, iPic, etc. But none of the major theater chains says anything about DTS:X. Both Regal and Carmike have dedicated sub pages for Dolby Atmos, IMAX, RPX, Big-D and Auro 11.1 but don't mention DTS:X anywhere. Through a good amount of web searching I could find only one location specifically advertising a show in DTS:X, the UEC Theaters 14 MegaScreen in Cleveland, TN.

All ATMOS competing object based audio systems will only lift up once the SMPTE standard is finalized. Until then, they are all prototypes or capability demonstrators.
