The question someone previously asked amazed me! Does any one have a Home 70mm Film Projector set-up? The answer astounded me as to the number of people who do, so my question now is:
Does anybody have a home IMAX Film Projector set-up? (and Gordon, even though you sleep and eat at your theaters, this doesn't count.)
And in 5 years I will ask this question: Does anyone have a Home Digital Theater Projector set-up? (and not the Barco type that sells for $900 at Circuit City)------------------

Unfortunately, almost all IMAX projectors are leased to the theaters and are property of IMAX.You can, however, rent an IMAX movie on VHS or DVD and sit really close to your television.

Contact me if you are interested in having one in your home. It is possible to have one at home if you want to endure the expense of it all. Of course it would only be a clone if one was "buying it". But in this case the clone turns out to be as good, or better than the original anway.

I know of one other Imax booth that is sitting in South America but was never installed due to the funds being funneled into someone elses pocket. This is the first I've heard of Imax selling anything. I guess the museum must have committed themselves for the return shipment costs in the lease. I would imagine that in this particuluar location they were not in a position to allow the museum to support the film venue for some reason or other. Very few loations can actually do this. A few that can are theme parks, and museums in the larger cities. In some locations IMAX themselves have taken over, and or are taking over loctions that lessors are no longer wanting to operate. Seems like they just want to keep their heads above water. Two of the locations are Navy Pier in Chicago, and possibly the IMAX in Boise, ID.
However if one buys the large format equipement outright in the first place all there is then are the operating costs and print leases to pay.

MarkBack in 1982 we bought our original IMAX system (#34) but when we decided to upgrade to 3D 4 years ago we had to change to leasing .
BTW is the South American system you refer to the fabled long lost Buenos Aires projector which predates our old projector?

Yea, it is the Buenos Aires stuff. That theme park, or what ever it was supposed to be, was never completed.
