Accordingly to the official web site for the 1570 Theatre I work at, in the film stats we screen 350mm film!.Wow!, that would be some huge projector to lace up!

Depth of field? Crudely said, the larger the format, the shallower the depth of field.

Can you imagine the noise it would make running through the projector? Nothing less than 120 frames per second would be acceptable on 350mm film. You'd have to have huge merry-go-rounds for platters that spin at some crazy speeds! Either that or a changeover every 23 seconds.

Ben,Is this the Imax in Birmingham? I saw a reference to 350mm film on their website a few months ago. I emailed them about it but got no reply.
I guess its because the Imax frame is 10 times larger than 35mm, therefore it 'must' be 350mm.

Ben /PhilI saw this just after the site went live and also sent them a note ,but sadly they ignored that as well.
Not to be outdone when in 1985 we installed the CP200 our local film critic wrote in the evening paper " The National Museum has now overtaken the Odeon and will soon be screening state of the art 700mm films with 6 track Dolby stereo "

Phill/DickYou are both correct, that it is on the Imax Theatre Web site at Birmingham UK.
To find it Joe, just find the main page and there is a box that flashes Imax stats every few secs.
I did tell them months ago, but they have not change anything.
Perhaps they know better!, as I only work there

I could thread the projector in New York and Jerry could watch it in Florida. Of course I would have to bounce the projector beam off the Moon. Humm, does this 350mm qualify as an e-projector?

I've stood next to those 350mm/700mm Norelcos before. My voice goes up at least 6 octaves and all of a sudden I feel like a Munchikin! Just imagine the size of the rectifiers and water chillers for a combination 350/700mm machine. Is this the new Norelco AA-3? I just wanna go home Auntie Em......

Well, assuming a 350mm film is 10x larger in all directions, would each frame be 40 perf? That would also be pumping 900 feet per minute through the projector, or film running at 10.2 miles per hour. You could get some serious bit rates from Dolby Digital running by at that speed. DTS sound quality wouldn't change at all.A two hour feature would 108,000' long, which is over 20 miles of film.
I think it would take Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox to handle something like that.
I leave the calculations for 700mm to someone else...my calculator fingers are getting tired.
