They had to come up with something since that Rolling Stones film fell through. Can't see this doing much business in September, though. I don't think I want to see it again.

Of course, the added footage cost may help to expedite IMAX's fall to financial ruin, driving the final nail in the coffin before they abandon film.

The action sequences were way to fast! I hope they put some extra footage in some of the fights... the fight of Bumblebee with the police car (the first fight) wasn't shown really good, so I hope to see more of those action sequences...but....

I will also wait for Beowulf, because a film in IMAX with Angelina Jolie!!! WOW... I'm not entirely sure who is hotter... Megan Fox or Angelina Jolie.
Maybe it's a good idea if Megan is making a movie with Angelina in IMAX format... [Eek!]

I guess we'll find out what a real Michael Bay seizure-cam epic looks like on an IMAX screen. It's possible this movie will make more than a few people throw up.

Where is any of this documented? I've seen a handful of 'speculation' statements - but one would think that with a short 4 weeks until this supposed release, IMAX & Dreamworks/Paramount would be hyping the crap out of an IMAX presentation. Yet neither web site has any mention of an IMAX release.

It's now official, in a press release from IMAX:

Beowulf is animated. I don;t know if you have seen the trailer or not. I thought at first that it was live action but then I saw the rest of the trailer and it was very similar looking to Polar Express.

Its being done by the same team that did Polar Express. This just looks a hundred times better in the animation department then Polar Express.

The difference this time is the CGI characters in Beowulf have varying levels of resemblance to real life actors providing the voice material. Angelina Jolie does the voice work of Grendel's Mother. The CGI counterpart looks just like Angelina Jolie.

Still...the characters still appear to have that dead, mannequin look to them. It just underscores the extreme difficulty in getting truly life-like animation out of photo realistic human CGI characters. It's a lot easier to do that in abstract form, such as what Pixar does with their features.

As to the subject of Transformers in IMAX, I'm not sure why they even need to bother. This movie, like most other IMAX blow ups, was probably originally rendered in mere 2K. How is blowing up the image to the size of a building from a very expensive film print going to improve anything.

It would be nice if IMAX movies were actually shot on IMAX.

Only the earliest bits of information I received talk about extra footage. Its possible someone miscommunicated that detail to me, or perhaps they decided to do without it at the last minute.

Agreed, and so I'm looking forward to Dark Night next year because of this.

Transformers is the first Paramount DMR conversion. Perhaps they're just fundraising a little bit in anticipation of Beowulf? Who knows. Maybe IMAX was just desperate to have a September movie. I'm glad for it, since Hairy Pooter won't last 'til November. But then, Transformers may not either. [Confused]
