With no Arclight locations listed, we can expect the 5/70 list to grow.

Is anyone else amazed that there are so many Imax venues still able to do film? The Ontario and Irvine (Calif.) Imaxes haven't done film for awhile, at least to my limited knowledge.

Colorado Center 9's Imax screen had the loudest, cleanest sub-bass I'd ever heard in a movie theater when we saw "Interstellar." But 15/70 had just broken down and we ended up seeing 2K digital. Really glad to see they're up for film for Dunkirk.

Very surprised not to see a 5/70 print for Arclight. Why have Wonder Woman and not Dunkirk?

I could be wrong but I believe the last time Irvine Spectrum showed 15/70 was for Interstellar, which I saw there my second time. Unfortunately the print looked terrible during the entire black hole sequence all the way until the end. Since it was my second time I didn't make a big deal about it. I was inquiring about their plans for Force Awakens in IMAX, (Laser or not) and mentioned the print damage to the manager. He was nice enough to give me two free IMAX tix and was very apologetic.

I don't know why the 5/70 list is so far off. But I was told the roll-out was going to be similar to Hateful Eight, so we should be expecting a pretty long list coming soon.

It will also be shown in 70mm at the Leewood AMC Towne Center 20 in Leawood, Kansas. I will be seeing it there. Its only 3hrs 40 min from my home. Was there this weekend to confirm.

I wonder how accurate that list is. They don't include the Grand Lake in Oakland, which claims to be showing Dunkirk in 70MM on their website. They misspelled the Continental in Denver, and they list the AMC Westminster in Vancouver instead of Westminster.

Still, I'm thrilled to see so many 70MM showings!

It's worth mentioning that the list at the NolanFans website was scraped from the source code of the Dunkirk website. It hasn't been officially published yet.

I called the Continental and asked if they'd be showing it in 70MM on the large screen, or if it would be on the small screen in the back.

Madison (a manager!) had to ask upstairs, but then reported that corporate was still deciding if they would show it or not, but if they do, it will be on the small screen in the back because that's where the 70MM projector is.

I told her that the last time I was in that auditorium, there was green light from the exit sign on the screen, and asked if that had been fixed. She said that she wasn't aware of a problem there, so it must have. I asked dubiously, "You're sure of that?" She answered confidently, "Yes."

It would be in the same auditorium as Hateful 8 was. They ain't moving that shit. It's in one of the "newer" auditoriums that was added in the last 10 years. #8 or #9 I believe.

I guarantee you that light hasn't been fixed. She just hasn't noticed it and nobody has ever complained about it, at least not while she was working.

I don't buy that.

For Denver the list omits the Colorado Center IMAX which had earlier confirmed they would be showing it in 15/70.

Both the other Denver locations showed Hateful 8 in 70mm, though I would be very suspect of the presentation in Westminster given how little AMC in this area seems to care about it.

Not yet official, but EYE Amsterdam will most likely run the 70mm version after the general release.

So, there's no way to see it in 70mm during the first weeks after the release in the Netherlands. Which is kind of ironic, since it was partially filmed there.

Most German locations will most likely run the German dubbed version.

Indeed the Grand Lake is showing it in 5/70mm. I believe the Mercado in Santa Clara is not.

Also missing is the Willows in Plymouth Minnesota.

I mentioned on the other Dunkirk thread that the Colorado Center IMAX confirmed they will not be showing it in 15/70 because they had "too many problems" showing Interstellar off film. [Frown] [Eek!]

Too many problems? Meaning they didn't want to pay a projectionist? Is pushing a few buttons just easier then threading film? Man if I were warner brothers, I wouldn't let them show it at all.

We had tickets there for Interstellar like the day it broke. And while the manager was courteous and offered us a refund if we didn't like the 2K Liemax show, in the end we didn't ask for one because the sound and the story experience were still so powerful.

You'd probably have to bring this to Nolan's attention to get this fixed. They don't need film to fill seats at that theater, apparently. And money is more important than anything, right?

At least there are two theaters in the area (AMC Westminster 24 in Westminster, CO and the Regal Continental in Denver) that will be showing it in 70mm.

Part of me suspects they actually ripped out and trashed the projectors when Interstellar finished its run and so couldn't run it in 15/70 even if forced to.

Sadly, if you go to Fandango and click on "Dunkirk in 70mm" though it does denote 70mm showings, it intermixes them with regular digital showings.

I think one thing that probably tipped it for the Colorado Center's management is that unlike with Interstellar, this time film presentations aren't getting an early presentation window so there's no financial benefit for them to provide patrons with a superior product; just move 'em in and move 'em out (given how blurry all non-3D 2K LieMax is there, I wouldn't be surprised; the text on trailers is noticeably fuzzy but 3D main presentations are sharp.)

This is one of several door clings at the AMC Westminster 24, and they have a large cardboard standup as well that also touts the 70mm presentation:

As always, this data is only as good as what is supplied by the theaters, but if they get it wrong, they're going to have plenty of unhappy customers showing up at their door. (Usually, the data we get is accurate, but mistakes and last-minute updates happen that we can't control)
I need to find out what the screen size, etc. will be at our local theater, and I'm going to do the same for the Chicago-area locations too. It doesn't make sense to watch a 70mm presentation on a 26-foot wide screen, with substandard sound.

Scott, it's nice that you posted those links and have current figures for the numbers of screens so booked. But how about if we just want to see a list of where the theaters are? No 35mm bookings within 50 miles is all the website will allow me to find out.

Strange; for some locations it lists the closest locations that will be playing it in that format.

For example, for Denver, the closest 15/70 theaters are Des Moines, IA and Fort Worth, TX. [Eek!]

The showtimes pages are set up to show theaters within a certain range (5-50 miles), and if none are found within that range, it will look for the closest 10 theaters, no matter how far away.

I thought about adding a way to just list all theaters playing a particular movie, but if that were to be done for wide releases, it would kill the server as it tries to deliver thousands of results.

If there is interest here for a complete list, I can probably whip a special page of results for just Dunkirk's various iterations. It might be a useful thing to have around when the next such special release happens...

Until then, here's an updated count:

Thanks for the reply and clarification, Scott. The "nearest 10" is a helpful feature, and for the moment is satisfying to see that the nearest 35mm booking is more than 700 miles from Hollywood. (#irony) At least there's a healthy sampling of 70mm and film Imax around here, so we really can't complain.

Perhaps when it's all over a "master list" of film locations can be archived, since this is a film release of historic proportions.

OK, I came up with a solution that I like for all 70mm shows, including Dunkirk.

I modified the search tool that I have for looking for Atmos presentations and set it after any movie with "70mm" in the title, or any presentation with "70mm" in the showtimes notes:

Give that a try and see if it delivers some useful information.

That shows all movies that qualify, and it shows all the theaters that qualify as well. Selecting the movie or theater will take you to more details, and eventually landing you on the showtimes page for the theater playing the 70mm presentation.

I have to work out some caching mechanisms to keep the server from getting overloaded, so the link above is the only place you'll find the tool until that's all done.

UPDATE: the final step to getting to the theater showtimes page isn't working. I'll keep the tool operational while I fix it because it still shows the list of theaters playing the movie.

This doesn't cover the 35mm shows, however, but I'm not sure that there's going to be a lot of need for that.

Dunkirk is currently playing at Science World's OMNIMAX Theatre in Vancouver on Tuesday nights at 19:30 during the summer months.

I'd be fascinated to hear what the turnout is on the movie a year later.
