Does anyone have an "official" number for current DLP installations in commercial theatres, either in the US or worldwide? There are listings at http://www.dlp.com/ but they seem to include some theatres that aren't built yet, along with screening rooms, etc.

I'm not interested in counting screens which use [dlp]

as a high-tech (and expensive) replacement for slides or that low-end Windows Media-based thing that Landmark announced this year. Only theatres which use the system for presenting feature films should count.

Are they the same industry researchers that predicted that there would be more DLPs in theatres than film projectors by 1999? And that film would virtually be eliminated by 2002? Those guys?

The dcinematoday site seems to be somewhat out of date; it does not list NFT3 in London, nor Picture House York. York is very recent, but I think the NFT one has been in for a few months now. These are just two that I happen to know about, but it suggests thst the total number will be somewhat greater than this site suggests.

My company was interested to buy a digital cinema projector for his new multiplex, but the price was too expensive, and the digital projection head was not upgradable to the next DLP chip size.
But we add a second port window in all booth to be ready for the digital projection when it will be a standard.

I saw the new 2K DP100 BARCO digital projector a few weeks ago demostrated on a 19 meter screen at a Kinopolis multiplex in Belgium and it was impressive......later that evening I viewed a 35mm presentation in the same cinema and I was getting seasick from the jumpy image [Wink]

BARCO demostrated this projector in their booth at the recent ShowEast tradeshow. Presentation standards from the studios....possibly a 4K master to a 2K/1.2K cinema presentation......should start the increase of digital screens.

In NYC (Manhattan) I believe there are 8 DLP projectors.... 2 in Ewalk 2 in Empire and 2 in Kips Bay and 2 in Union Square

The Ziegfeld has been closed for over a month for a booth upgrade, although I'm not sure what constitutes the upgrade. I spoke to some people hanging around the lobby and they seemed to indicate that new D-Cinema was being installed, but when I questioned them further, they changed the story to one in which they really didn't know what was happening.

The Ziegfeld reopens this Friday for "Brother Bear".

"Brother Bear" had an exclusive week-long premier at the Ziegfeld starting on October 24. What are they using to show it if their Barco D-Cine is gone?
