Does anyone know how D-Cinema installations will be done in drive-in theaters and if there are currently any DIs with D-Cinema? This has always puzzled me since lamphouse requirements are so different in DIs. Sorry if this a "dumb" question, but I unfortunately have never worked in a DI in any capacity and not to knowledgeable about their booths.

The problem with some drive-ins is related to screen size and distance. A lot of drive-ins use special prints that are timed a bit lighter to help get the light to the screen. With digital the problem lies not with light but with image degradation. The bigger the screen the more noticeable it is. I think there is a thread on the site somewhere where they did a digital experiment at a drive-in somewhere but not sure how big the screen was.

(if you have 400ft throws and screen sizes of 35x80, there might be a chance of a decent image, but see what might happen when the 4K stuff hits the market, then it might be more feasible for Dr-Ins..)

The digital experiment at a drive-in was at the Transit Drive-In, near Buffalo, NY in the spring of 2006. They used an NEC projector.

If I'm not mistaken, Jack O' went to the event and could tell us the results.
