A friend saw " The Hulk" there today and said the picture was amazing.
He said the Manager announced just before the movie that they just installed what they said couldn't be done, a brand new digital projector for the biggest screen in Arizona. 70' wide Cinemascope Screen!

Curious if anyone knows what model they are running.

They're likely running a Christie CP-2000-SB digital projector. Christie claims the unit achieves 14fL on screens up to 100'. Harkins has bought Dolby Digital Cinema servers for other digital installations. It would seem likely the same server hardware is running on that screen.

You might send Kurt Zupin a message and ask him the same question. I think he would be able to provide a more definite answer. After all, I'm just trying to make a good guess.

It is true Harkins Tempe Marketplace is testing out a Digital projector in the Cine Capri. I must say like I did in my Hulk review it does look fantastic. I wonder if your friend saw my announcement tonight? At this time I can't say what the projector is but it isn't a Christie. We are doing a 3 week test and I would be really shocked if we didn't keep it. It really does look good.

Hi Kurt

Id be interested in knowing if you were using an anamorphic lens for this one or the zoom method. With that screen size you would benefit from using the entire chip ( less pixel structure ) but if indeed your testing the Barco they are pushing the zoom method.

I would agree that it is more than likely a Christie, but probably the CP-2000S. I'm installing the same projector next week in place of an IWERKS 15/70 system on an approximately 82X60 foot screen. We did tests about a month ago that showed twice the screen brightness out of the single Christie CP-2000S running a 6kw 8.2fl vs. the 15/70 running a 7KW lamp 4fl max. Running material at scanned and filed at 4K results in a pretty darn nice image.

Well the test is over now. We tested a Barco 3000 with a 5k bulb. I am sad to say that the Cine-Capri will not be going digital at this time.

They did the right thing in pulling it out! You'd be stuck with purchasing those expensive and very stupid lamp modules when a lamp explodes... What makes me really laugh about the BARCO is that they think the CLO softweare can still be an expensive option while it's included at least on Christies free of charge.

Just wanted to give an update on this subject. As of this Friday(1/16/09) Tempe Marketplace is testing another Digital projector in the Cine Capri. This as well is not a Christie.
