With newer projectors going in are there any used DLPs for sale or are they just obsolete junk. Prices?

Very rare but yes, they do exist. We picked up a used DP-100 for a customer a while back. It was advertised here on F-T! The DLP manufacturers may also have available from time to time "refurbished" or "off lease" equipment.

Please clarify...are you referring to DCinema grade DLPs? If so, yes, those are VERY rare if they are 2Ks. Think about it...most anyone that has one, has another place for it unless they are a single and are going bankrupt...and then it is a bank issue...a vary rare situation.

Now 1.3K DLPs that were used in the 1st phase of DCinema are often just cast aside in booths that have them because nobody wants them.

A/V projectors do come up for sale too as rental houses like to changeover their stock to current models to maintain their status. However those often have seen some heavy use as they need to make back their money and show a profit.

We have one 1.3k disassembled in one of our booths, where we moved it to put in a 2k barco. We use another 1.3k for alternative content like football, etc. The 1.3k's are still useful for alternative content.

I had D Cinema machines in mind. My thought is that at this time anything coming out is probably inoperative with a prohibitive repair cost, or older lower resolution. There is no shortage of AV equipment at reasonable prices.

Two things to know in aquiring a used D-Cinema Projector...

1. Be prepared to jump on it immediately...
2. You ARE taking a chance on anything used...

I still reccomend leasing your D-Cinema gear new or used... This way you're not stuck with any gear for decades if other major changes in the system is made... At least with Christie you can also extend the warranty on new projectors when bought new...

Barco will also extend warranties.

Actually, depending on what goes...an older unit should still be repairable. I still have 3 DP50s that I service...had to change out a fold-mirror a year or two ago...Barco sent it right out and it continues to run to this day.

I agree, the older 1.3K projectors can certainly be repurposed into general A/V projectors with pretty decent results. Note, they are not nearly as light efficient as the 2K projectors though.
