Does anyone have a specific make and model recommendation for whatever these things are called? (Yes I am too tired to care that I called them "pole thingeys" right now.)

We have them here and it is really incredible.
The make is Sensormatic and we use the Ultra Post model.

It is called an EAS system. The one manufactured specifically for the cinema market is made by Proyecson / Valencia, Spain and is being distributed by Jack Roe USA.

I tell my customers that the "pole thingeys" with the red velvet ropes attached to them will trigger if they have any outside food or beverage that they are hiding...

I get a few people who believe me, and look at me all scared!

Go with Master Inage! You'll have a much brighter image than Real-D or Dolby... No poles needed here either!

Typically, most EAS systems will detect the tags embedded in the glasses. The variables of the specific area are what dictate what system you need to install. Stantion style systems will generally cover a 36" path. Larger areas over coverage require more stantions or one of the systems that utilizes a wire embedded in the door frame and floor.

Sensormatic and Checkpoint are the most popular manufacturers. Dolby doesn't specify an exact model since the design of the building and placement can be different from site to site.
