A number of people are reporting that a certain theater and perhaps chain in So-Cal (as well as a few other locations) are not showing "Partly Cloudy" with 3-D screenings. I thought this short was required. What gives?

All that is certain is that Disney got wind of some locations somewhere that did not run the short last weekend, thus having Technicolor sending notices via e-mail and fax "reminding" people sternly that the booking contract stated the short must be run or it's considered a violation of contract, or something along those lines.
The e-mail was originally directed at digital equipped theatres, which makes me think someone left the short off the playlist.

Why not just make the short part of the same file? You aren't supposed to be putting anything in between the short and feature anyhow. Then the breach of contract would be a non-issue for digital sites.

That is what Disney or Technicolor should have done.

I hear that the Partly Cloudy short is already available on iTunes for $1.99. That's a load of crap, if it's true.

What at total pile of elephant turdes this little game Disney's is. They are all about making sure the exhibitor follows their contracts & plays by the rules, but when it comes to screwing the exhibitor, there's nothing they won't stoop to. Basically this is day-and-date and it's what they have always wanted after opening weekend.

And don't think they are not going to sell home 3D versions of every on of their 3D releases as soon as one of the home 3D systems become viable. Exbibs will be lucky if the get to play pictures for a week before the Rat puts them up for sale on iTunes or PPV or sequential 3D BluRay.
