We're actually scheduled to finally get a digital projector in the next 6-8 weeks after being told we'd have one in July of 2008. Anybody know of any good sites or info for someone with zero experience? Just want to learn a little bit before we actually open it. I believe we'll be getting a Barco, seems to be standard for cinemark.

Remember that the projector is 1/2 the install. Try to find out what server you'll be using and try to download manuals for both units.

Unfortunately, there is no substitute for getting your hands on one and learning that way. Reading is a good overview, for sure but once you have the system...the manual can then fill in the gaps.

Fortunately, I'd say that most of the systems are reasonably intuitive. They also tried to make them feel similar to film in how you handle the various pieces. That is you build up a show by putting together your previews, adds, feature and what nots...You put cues on that so the lights/sound changes occur at the right times (studios will tell you where the credits start so you can get the mid-light cue placed correctly)...etc. If you have a networked system, you can then push/pull that feature to the individual theatres...kinda like moving a print around.

Sounds easier than I thought it'd be. Our ads will still be handled by the small LW25 projector, so I wont have to worry about that and we'll most likely only be getting 1 projector so moving wont be an issue.

Is this a 2-D or 3-D system going in and what 3-D system is it going to be if it's 3-D?

This will be a 3-D setup using a Doremi server and Real D XL unit.
