hi guys.
im gonna recieve a digital projector and it will came with a DOREMI DCP-2K4 server.
how can i connect the audio from the DCP to a DOLBY processor with out a digital/analog converter?

Hello,

On CP 500 or CP 650, use the 6 external channels audio input (DTS input).

As far as I know the Doremi needs a converter D/A. According to the brochure you can have either an internal board or the external converter. In any case, if you have a CP650 I would recommend the cat.790. I think the price is not so far from the external adapter and it will support 7.1.

The DCP-2K4 Server which is a replica of the DCP2000 offers both AES and analogue outputs balanced or unbalanced depending on the option you ordered (analogue outputs is an optional card). Is best to check with your supplier to see which version you have. There is an audio delay setting inside the server if using the analogue outputs to match it with the image. Usually one is set arround 124ms but it depends.

2.1.2 DCP-2000 Analog (ANA) Audio Connector - Optional
The DCP-2000 analog un-balanced audio output connector pin-out follows:

That's interesting. Why have I always seen Doremi's external D/A adaptor instead of this internal board?

The internal board is optional but it is available and at a lesser price than a D:A converter.

You have a bit more flexibility with the external D/A converter. For a D-Cinema only booth, the CP-750 has a compatible digital input and other processors do as well (but you asked about Dolby). If you have a 35mm and D-cinema booth the CP-650 can have digital input. Some cinemas that have other program sources as well as the Doremi server (satellite or cable HD video) often use a DMA-8+ as the D/A converter for all digital sound. In a mixed complex with assorted equipment, using external decoders where there's no D/A in the processor allows you to move servers in an emergency without worrying about whether a server has the D/A card. (I thought the KDM would prohibit such a move, but it seems that the KDM controls the projector decryption not the server-projector link: putting a backup DCP-2000 in a cinema then ingesting the feature and KDM that worked with the failed server is successful).

Yes, it is. You can physically move a server and connect it to a different projector, as long as the IP addresses for both machines are set correctly, but the KDM is generated for *that* specific server's security certificate.

As of now, KDMs have nothing to do with projectors. Theoretically, in the future they could be created as to only authorize playback on a single, pre-determined server/projector pair.

Am I wrong when I asume that the KDM is linked to the mediablok?

If I have a dolby ds200 server that malfunctions can I swap one server by another just by keeping the same mediablok on that screen?

You are correct. The KDM is tied, at current, to the Cat 862, in the case of Dolby's DSS200.
