Volfoni is offering their 3D system named Edge 1.0. The glasses are active type. Is it a new system or just a clone of XpanD? Does anyone have experience with these glasses?

Indeed, it's a real clone of Real D : exactly the same technology.

Frederick, I believe you confused the two systems:
at first, Volfoni started out with original XpanD rentals. In the meantime they developed their own system called Edge, which is indeed a knock-off of XpanD and available for rent and for sale.

They actually achieved to develop glasses, which are considerably lighter than the original XpanD goggles and claim to have increased the light-throughput of the glasses by 10%.

If the light has been increased by ten percent, it is still not enough. The Ward Centere in Honolulu has ExpanD in a system they call TITAN XC and it is dreadful. I saw TOY STORY 3-D there and will never see another film in TITAN XC even it was free!. Extremely dark image and uncomfortable seats.

It's still a lot brighter than Dolby 3D.

'Brighter' means 'more light efficient'. Of course you still need brighter bulbs as with every 3D system.

If it has been too dark in this location, then the system there is not configured with a proper bulb. Probably one that is already on the edge in 2D.

XpanD is brighter than a standard (non XL) RealD installation (yet offers much better stereo separation). Volfoni has some extra brightness, lighter glasses, and a plain standard 2032 cell.

In germany they had only been in the rental market for while. Now they sell their systems through established integrators.

You might contact Volfoni directly for more information. You probably shouldn't expect a large worldwide distribution network yet, though.

They have offices in LA and Hong Kong, amongst a few in europe.

One cinema in germany has experience with their systems since 2006. So they are not actually a newcomer. They also seem to offer better licensing than most competition, or, to be more precise, no licensing at all, you just buy it (or rent it).
