Hello everybody,

This is my problem : i know it's possible to show 2 D image even with a 3 D DCP. In this situation, you only use one image (left eye). Of course, the result is not DCI compliant (wrong color space). But it could really help is you have an issue with you 3 D system.

My problem is i don't know how to do it with a doremi serveur. I know how to do it on Dolby but not doremi (with a barco DP2K15C projector). Do i have to create a special Macro with the macro editor interface user ?

Yes, this can be done.

If you are using a 3D calibration setting (e.g. Dolby 3D or Real-D ghost busting) you will want to not use those from the server end of things (you don't want the server doing the color correction or ghost busting). You DO want to leave it in 3D mode, however.

At the projector (DP1500), you will create a Macro that is looking at only the "292A" port. The PCF file should be YCxCz for the Doremi (or GDC) servers (either 185 or 239, as appropriate to the aspect ratio of the movie) (For Dolby, us MXFI PCFs). Use the MCGD and Screen of your 2D shows. Also, make sure your light settings match your 2D shows too.

I have tested this on Christie and Barco projectors (confirmed it on an NEC) Series 1 and Series 2 and on Dolby as well as GDC servers.

I was told that 3D DCPs are colour corrected for 3D (4.5FL) and as a consequence the 2D DCP is not just a 3D DCP with one channel, but a slighty different picture. Nothing terrible, but if what I was told is true, showing a 3D DCP in 2D is NOT the right way to do, a 2D DCP should be requested.

There is truth in this...however...sometimes, one is denied a 2D copy as well as a 3D. This certainly is not ideal in many respects...including color space.

The question was...is it possible. The answer is yes.
