Just wondering if anyone know how they are doing this. Can you adapt broadcast 3D thru RealD or Dolby 3D? 3D is 3D, plain and simple.

"RealD" and "Dolby Digital 3D" are companies that takes the 3D data and plays it back to their specifications.

Digital projectors have options for DVI inputs from either a computer or standalone players.

They're prob getting a broadcast feed going into a device that has video outputs, in which the video signal is feed into a scaler, which is connected to the DVI input, to match the playback needs of the projector. Then a macro is assigned on the control board of the projector to the DVI port so that video input can be played.

Sound just goes through the processors and then to amplifiers.

EDIT: I did forget something though:

being the source is coming from an extenal device and being sent through the DVI input on the projector, the source prob have it's own process of 3D which would require possibly different eyewear for this program to be viewed since it's not going thru the attached 3D process units attached to the projector.

If the 3-D showings are free, who's paying for the glasses? Theatres has been charging a high surcharge for them from paying customers with the explanation that the glasses are added expense and they must pay it.

..prob be the promoters and not the theatre since they're renting the venue out - it's their show, not Muvico's.

For 2D broadcasts, you can use any plainvanilla set-top box connecting through HDMI or a scaler. For 3D, there is specialised hardware to be installed. This hardware will convert the broadcast 3D into the common frame-sequential SDI format for DCI machines. Doremi also has a converter box. Some pro-grade sat receivers will do this conversion as well.

Currently there is no DCI projector capable of decoding consumer HDMI 1.4a 3D signals - although Doremi mentions such a feature for their IMB HDMI input.
