Saw and IMAX Digital presentation this evening. I thought it was outstanding with no issues and it made my experience worth the money.
I have to say I was very impressed with something at the very end of the film. First time I have seen the message for an IMAX Digital film.
After the credits, there is a quality message, the final message states something along these lines:
"If you experience any issues with this IMAX Digital Performance, please email QCX@IMAX.com
It also stated the chief technician"
Now, the last time I saw this message was the only 1-800-PHONE-THX or something along those lines.
Can anyone confirm if MI4 in 15/70 has the same message?
I know IMAX Digital is not popular on the board, and my views on IMAX Digital are not supported by the others, but with the lack of consistent 35mm or well done performances, a message like this was impressive and refreshing to see.

While you are certainly welcome to share your experience of any given theater, the fact that you created a new thread for this when another already existed (and that you already posted in it), the way you titled the thread and the fact that you had to make sure to point out that your views were "not supported by others" clearly shows that you are only interested in trolling. Not that I'm surprised. Little troll is as little troll does, I suppose.

This isn't anything new, this has been on all IMAX prints since this summer. Also its not a Chief Technician, the name that is on the card is David Keighley. The man behind making sure every IMAX print Film and even Digital comes out correctly and he wants to hear from YOU Tom, you should email him a nice long letter telling him about how great your experience in a IMAX Digital theatre was. You should also Clap in the email for him.
Also, I agree with Joe. This topic is stupid and in the vain of only one thing and that is to be an ass.

The above reaction isn't all that surprising considering how many times Tom says he "would of" done something.

Well Tom... We can only assume the sound was ok there because they must have been using KLH speakers...

If everyone stops responding to all his

Thanks Kurt, wasn't sure who it was as it was on screen real quick and I had only glanced at it. I might just do that and email him, I actually don't live far (just down the road) from IMAX HQ so I could probably just drop by

"Quality control" messages at the very end of films are stupid because 99% of the time there is nobody left to see them.
If they really cared about getting told of problems, they would put the QC message in between the trailers and the feature.

Fair enough and a good idea. They should put right before after the message thats states a digital projector is being used for the show, right before the film starts.
Posted by Mike Blakesley (Member # 26) on 12-27-2011, 11:29 AM:
Who gives a shit about what kind of projector is being used? The message is asking people to report quality problems. It doesn't matter what the equipment is. To the public, a problem is a problem.

It wasnt all that long ago i got a request from a studio to go out and do a alignement at a competitors theatre based on a complaint and was told that if there was any attitude to correcting or verifing the list of "issues" call the police as i was to take the print with me
amazing all the "little" issues that had plagued that theatre got delt with and there was no big issues after that
In a competitive market complaints to the studios often get looked at

I think he meant that at the digital sites, they could just add the QC snipe after the already-existing "hey we're running digital in the piece of shit theater" snipe.

Yes but today, it looks like none of the exhibitors really care. No qualified projectionist, equipment that is poorly maintained etc etc.
IMAX on the other hand at least has some control over their product and if I am correct, IMAX digital is monitored in real time from Mississauga Ontario.

Isn't everyone that's on a VPF monitored by some sort of service similar to that one?
edit: Nevermind. I realize you're responding specifically to the Ontario reference.

Wow, this is a rough room! Some F-Ters on the rag this month? In a season of good-will-toward-men, this thread decended into viscousness the likes of which I haven't seen before in a matter of a few posts.
I thought flaming and ad hominem attacks were a violation of the F-T Prime Directive #1.
Let's take a deep breath and lighten up.

This thread itself is a flame, in my opinion, even if Tom gets ragged on more than deserved at times.
It was created to show his personal experience at an IMAX theater and voice it as being good. As mentioned, we already have a thread for that (which he posted in saying much the same).

No prologue. I don't care anyway, I don't like trailers before a movie and they just give away too much of the movie anyway. A 6 minute preview just ruins the movie IMO. Also nowadays the studios cut an A, B, and C trailer and it is just way too much.

Don't worry boys, I expected a response like this. It is sad that some people just can't accept that some people might like IMAX Digital.
Posted by Mike Blakesley (Member # 26) on 12-27-2011, 10:25 PM:

Posted by Joe Redifer (Member # 3) on 12-28-2011, 02:31 AM:
Tom, the point is that you didn't need to make a new thread. The other thread isn't called "I don't like IMAX Digital". You made this thread and titled it appropriately just to ruffle the feathers of people here and now you have even admitted it. It's exactly the kind of thing you do, for you are a troll. You and Mark Gulbrandsen would get a long very well together, for you are both huge trolls. If you were truly interested in discussion of the topic, you would have posted it in the other thread (which you did anyway), not create this unnecessary new thread and wouldn't be marred by this troll talk. You are a troll. It's what you do. It's who you are. Tom the Troll.

The odd thing about trolls is, they don't seem to realize they are trolls even when they're called on it.
Posted by Sam D. Chavez (Member # 1841) on 12-28-2011, 02:05 PM:
If they are really trolls they get off on being called on it as they know they are drawing blood and this the only attention they ever get.
And they get better at it over time. That's why we should not feed them and instead shun them. They are kind of like those campground bears.
See, I've already wasted time commenting on this troll.
Posted by Joe Redifer (Member # 3) on 12-28-2011, 02:17 PM:
Yeah, we shouldn't respond to them directly.
The trolls on that Art of Trolling site linked above are actually pretty good. They're funny and not doing it to be asses (well, mostly). Instead, it's more of a sarcastic sense of humor/playing dumb. That's trolling done proper. Forum trolls are a completely different animal, unfortunately. Like Mark G, bitching about this site elsewhere like no tomorrow yet he couldn't stay away if his life depended on it.
Posted by Sam D. Chavez (Member # 1841) on 12-28-2011, 06:21 PM:
I would not call Mark G a troll; he's one of us for sure and he works in the business at the state of the art.
He's just a man of changing opinions, and he honestly believes each and every opinion at the time.
I guess there is a name for this condition, but troll does not cover it.
Posted by Steve Guttag (Member # 268) on 12-28-2011, 06:43 PM:
Politician? Except he isn't running for anything.
Clearly SOME of what he says is purely to incite some into anger (the comments don't add to the discussion, they just make some mad)...that is a malicious act of a troll. There is also the constant product placement he uses that is troll like.

Like his KLH comment which I think was in this thread obviously directed at me and having absolutely nothing to do with IMAX digital or movie theaters in any way.
Posted by Sam D. Chavez (Member # 1841) on 12-28-2011, 08:35 PM:
I think a real troll is more like a poser. Mark G. generally knows what he's doing or saying.
As to the product placements or plugs; unless someone is paying him to say these things, it's pretty harmless.
We all say things to provoke or bait a response. That alone does not make us trolls.
Posted by Brad Miller (Member # 2) on 12-28-2011, 10:10 PM:
Product placement and plugs are trolling when claiming things every competitive product does. For example if the discussion was talking about ingesting times and then Mark comes up and comments:
"The server-brand-I-am-selling-this-month can ingest while it is playing a movie."
Oh yeah? Big flippin' do because they ALL can! As such, that sort of comment is giving misleading information, as the readers would in such an example then think that if they want to ingest during playback that they need to seek out the server-brand-Mark-is-selling-this-month. It isn't as if what he said was incorrect, it just isn't complete and somebody like Mark knows better.
Posted by Steve Guttag (Member # 268) on 12-29-2011, 06:32 AM:
Yeah...the brand I normally sell this month has had playing content off the CRU for years while the brand he is selling this month treats it as a newish feature!

Posted by Joe Redifer (Member # 3) on 01-07-2012, 12:39 AM:
Slides like that always make me cringe because it gives me the impression that the theater staff does not keep an eye on the presentation and/or other things.
Posted by Chris Slycord (Member # 4239) on 01-07-2012, 02:01 AM:
That's the same way I feel about the message that some people here praised that IMAX puts on movies telling them to call corporate for any presentation issues. It gives me the idea that they are merely reactive. A company that cares about the presentations and maintenance that goes along to achieve this will not need such a message.
Posted by Edward Havens (Member # 4715) on 01-07-2012, 03:36 AM:
It also makes me cringe, but only because it should be "You're" or "You are." "Your," a singular possessive personal pronoun, is grammatically incorrect for the kind of statement being made in the slide.

I'm surprised that it took three responses before someone pointed that out. At first I thought it was a joke.

At the Temple Theatre in SAGINAW, MI there are ushers at each lobby door as well as both the projectionist and stage manager present during the entire presentation.
The original Barton pipe organ is played before each showing as well.
There are two curtains that move as well as a three color light show in the auditorium. Curtain warmers and footlights as well.
There are 23 other screens near by where you can see a movie but at the Temple you get a "show"

He is simply catering to the people that slide is intended for. They might not understand it otherwise.
