I see that Sony have displayed new digital projectors/technology in Barcelona. Is there anything to get excited about.

a 4K engine in order to run for small screen, for 45 K€ (EURO) - is making some guys really excited about.
Let see how the market will react to that news.

"Whereas 4.5 foot-Lamberts onscreen is a generally accepted standard for 3D, Sony Digital Cinema Europe’s sales director, Oliver Pasch, noted that the Men In Black were shining bright at 6.1, with the possibility of going as high up as 8.5 foot-Lamberts. Sony installed four of its SRX-320 4K projectors—plus two as back-up systems—carefully aligning all the images for perfect sync and overlap."
It looks like this is 4K 3D with a dual-dual projector setup (2 stacked 4K projectors for left eye, 2 more projectors for right eye)? That would be half the projectors and half the imager and give 1/4 the screen brightness for a single dual lens projector with only 2K 3D resolution (most likely 2K for 2D as well since swapping to the single 2D lens is rarely done).
So that suggests a single Sony in 3D - brand new lamp and set up by factory techs of course - would be able to give 2.125 ft-L on a 85' wide screen at 100% lamp power... seems optimistic from the light levels I've seen on smaller screens with Sony projectors.

As mentioned, new Sony 45.000€ 4k projector with integrated DCI server, UPS (even analog audio out), running a OHP lamp cluster, 15.000 lumens. SRX-R515P
This is also the first DCI projector outperforming all previous systems when it comes to contrast - 1:5000 compared to 1:2000 for previous DLP and SXRD systems.
First showing of S2k DLP systems from NEC (NC900C) and Christie 'Solaria One' - small, 'portable' 2k DLP DCI projectors with built-in standalone IMBs (Doremi in the NEC, Christie in the Christie ;-). These will cost around 25.000-30.000 Euro, again, including 'server' that was separate previously. Max screen width is around 8-10m (2D). So, low cost for small screens. HFR capable, but 3D brightness of course is limited.
These IMBs include the SMS, so no external additional server is needed. You only add storage, e.g. a small RAID.
