Has anyone in the UK noticed the lack of studio support for Dolby 7.1? So far it seems that only Disney are releasing content in this format, while the other film companies seem to be happy with 5.1. I wouldn't mind so much but in a lot of cases, a US release can come with a 7.1 soundtrack available. I cant believe its a cost issue as once the files are made it cant cost any more to ship them to the UK for distribution here.

Anyone have an explanation, or an opinion?

In fact it's a tiny cost. Being the language the same it's just a matter of packing a VF version - which may need or not some edits because of tiny differences with the US version (i.e. a different distributor), screen it and distribute it.

They have installed Dolby Atmos at the Empire cinema in London
but pulled Brave so now its running at the Vue instead.

I dont blame Dolby, its the film companies who can decide to make 5.1 / 7.1 / atmos versions of their films, i just cant understand why more than often they wont send anything other than 5.1 to the UK even when a 7.1 version has already been created.

l had a demo of Dolby Atmos at Dolbys new 67 seat preview theatre in Soho Square London it sounded fantastic.

Out of curiosity, what AES channels are the rear surrounds ending up on?

Dolby's rear channels are on 11/12 for 7.1

Thanks! That's what I thought. A couple hours ago, I was talking with someone with a USL monitor on a CP-750. Since the CP-750 only has 8 channels of AES input (4 pairs), the rear surrounds were coming in on AES 7/8. I don't know where the routing was taking place (in the server, hard wired rewiring, etc.).

Some servers can now re-route the audio so it is possible. One may also have a cable that used 11/12 on the server end and 7/8 on the sound processor end.
