While reading “Film Is Dead? Long Live Movies - How Digital Is Changing the Nature of Movies“ by AO Scott and Manohla Dargis on the transition to digital cinema in the Sunday New York Times, http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/09/movies/how-digital-is-changing-the-nature-of-movies.html?pagewanted=all I could not help but think about Roger Ebert’s writings on the difference between the active watching of a movie projected on film, going through the projector at 18/24/etc frames per second, and the passive viewing of a video image on a television. His thoughts were influenced by Marshall McLuhan.

I wondered what his updated thoughts are about this might be and while I did not find the answer yet, this is a beautiful piece he wrote last year worth your time.
