I just noticed that Digital Cinema is now the forum at the top of the dropdown list, whereas it formerly was underneath Film Handlers.

If that's not a sign the industry is switching to digital I don't know what is! [Big Grin]

But seriously, Brad when did this change? Just curious how long it took me to spot it.

I noticed it 2 or 3 days ago. I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. In a few years I imagine the Film Handler's Forum will get as many posts per year as the large format forum. By that I mean next-to-none.

Certainly, September 30 has some meaning too (VPF cutoff date for signing up).

Welcome to the Dark Side Film-Tech.

One thing I hope I don't live to see is the site change to "Digital-Tech (dot) com" or some other such nonsense. I would hope not as it is film that made this place what it is to begin with.

Yeah, with "film" in the name it clues you that the site is about movie projection. "Digital" can be anything.

"Digital" is such a vague word. In many contexts that useless buzzword is only going to lead to other questions being asked about the "digital" whatever the hell it is item. For instance a customer could bring me an "art" file for use in a design. If the guy says it's "digital" -thinking that's enough in terms of details, well, hell no it most definitely is not. And if he's going to play at being a designer he should know better.

Even in terms of computer technology alone the word "digital" has long since lost much of its novelty. I see little if any value of a new company choosing to incorporate the word "digital" into its brand. Technically "digital" has been around as long as living things have had fingers or figured out how to use numbers.

The more digital (and automated) the industry goes, the less and less participation will exist on film forums in general I think. Not just this one.

I doubt that there will be less reason...the discussions will be different than for film but as alternative content becomes more of a reality, new technology (which will be coming faster than film ever had)...there will still be room for discussion and exchanging of ideas and assistance. Knowledge, both good and bad, never stops.
