I was wondering if anyone else is playing the 4k DCP of "The Master" on their 2k projector?

Im pretty sure my problem is with the actual content itself, rahter than the equipment.

Symptom:
Indoor scenes where the actors faces are lit, the brighter areas seem a little "flickery". Not much, but I have noticed it. On outdoor shots, cant detect it.

Our equipment:
Barco DP2k-12c (with a newer firmware than the installer had seen 2 weeks ago)
Dolby DSS 200 4.5.4.0
CP750

The equipment is brand new, only 30 hours on the lamp. All other content seems perfect, adverts, another feature (2k dcp) even bluray through the scaler.

Are effects like this common when downscaling a 4k dcp to a 2k projector? Or is it just a "feature" of the film itself?

I will admit im a bit of a digital virgin, just a-wondering, tis all

Oh, i also looked down the vent holes while running the film with my welding mask, cant say i saw the lamp itself flickering at all

This was evident on my 35mm print as well! So I think it's the film itself?

I don't remember The Master having flicker in the 70mm print I saw at the AFI Silver.

It was only certain shots that had a bit of flicker in 35mm.
Most of the time I did not see it.

It's funny… I noticed some of this stuff in Inception, which was also partly shot with Panavision 65mm cameras. It looked like minor shutter speed fluctuation to me.

Perhaps there are no skilled camera techs left to keep those beasts in perfect shooting condition any more?
