Hey all. Today's I-just-don't-know-any-better question is brought to you today by the letter B for Barco.

Seriously though. So we've had this DP2000 for 3 or so years and it's developed a convergence issue. The red and green seem to have strayed to the left and right respectively.
We had a tech out to look at it who informed us there's a screw in the light engine that is stripped and he can't back it out out. The location of it makes it impractical to use an extractor to pull it out as metal shavings would get into the light engine.

One suggestion was he take it back to the shop and attempt to work some magic there. Barco meanwhile says replace the whole light engine.

The tech is from a reputable company and has done work for us previously, I have absolutely faith in the guy. My questions are: does it come pre-converged from the factory, should it ever need to be adjusted? Would the screw have been stripped there?
Do we think someone has messed with it and stripped it?

Barco is kindly sending a couple of their more experienced techs to look at it but in the mean time I'm just trying to get a better idea of this issue and how it came about.

Just wanting to spit-ball some ideas here since it's basically not getting any more useless at this point and it seems like we're going to be spending a lot of money either way...

Does your machine have the knobs on extensions to do convergence or is it the old style that needed long tools to set?

They can drift and unfortunately the screws are in a very awful position. That said, I think that he removed the light engine he should be able to remove them and replace them. I have done to a light engine, it was not a big deal. When the light engine is sitting on a table those damaged screws are much more accessible.
