It is actually a USL JSD-80 OEM version. Not a bad choice. I think it lacks the S/P-DIF inputs, but other than that, it has 8 analog inputs, and 8 digital inputs from a digital server.

It uses the same setup software as the JSD-80, has a basic built-in RTA. I guess even with the lack of the S/P-DIF ports, I would prefer it over a CP750.

But the big issue is that after a week's time you'll ask your installer "how do I connect my DVD player to the projector for 5.1 sound?"

Sure it is enough, lower price than 750 and can handle 35mm. But as mentioned, no spdif, i dont remember it having lots of matrixing options for digital. Otherwise, if you have it, it can be a decent backup and something to help port you for when you decide what else you will do with the cinema soundwise.

And yes, only 8 AES in. I'll be trying it out during the summer.

You have 3 options:
1. If you have an IMB, you can get the audio from the IMB but for HDMI
2. get a Gefen Cinema-Scaler, they have Audio-decoding
3. get the Decoderstation from germanbased company called Teufel

Sewell also makes a handy outboard DA to 5.1A decoder that is low cost it is called the d block 5.1 audio converter

Or get a DVD/BluRay Player with discrete analog outputs. This will also ensure all BluRay audio format decoding. There are also some HDMI-Audio DeEmbedder/converter available. They will usually not do DTS MasterAudio decoding, but the better players will decode it to 8ch LPCM HDMI out which is the better starting point for these decoders.

Anyway, enough options, most of them better than S/P-DIF.
