Hi, folks.

Some local theaters will, starting Friday, have one screening of From Up on Poppy Hill in the original Japanese with English subtitles. The rest of the day, they'll be screening the dubbed version.

This has me wondering. Can DCPs have multiple audio and subtitle options, like a DVD or Blu-ray?

They are packed as additional separate CPLs and depending on type of subtitles if xml or mxf anywhere between 100kB to about 10MB in length. We sometimes get them with the drive, sometimes they are sent additionally per email/ftp and ingest later.

They are usually set up so they work with the existing video and audio mxfs.

Unlike DVD/BR, you cannot change subtitles while the show is running. And usually you have little (if any) control over the position and size of them.

Plus, you need to get a key/KDM for each version separately.
