Not really. I have a half-dozen or so domains registered via Godaddy and they all have my name on them.

http://www.h-t-solutions.com/ is also registered through Domains By Proxy LLC.

So that leads me to thing the the "Domain by Proxy" must be an option linked to domain registration within Go Daddy. I cannot confirm anyway as I never had to use this registrar in my life - so far.

I believe that the Domains By Proxy identity masking service is an extra-cost option that you can get when you register a domain via godaddy's domain registration service.

But so what? The point remains that whoever owns those domains is concealing his identity behind Domains By Proxy LLC.

If this Cineactive outfit is indeed a legitimate business (which it may or may not be -- I have no information either way) that simply raises a question in my mind as to why the principals feel it necessary to hide in that way and if I was in the market for that software (which I am not) it would make me think twice before deciding to make a purchase from them.

My domains have my name and contact information in their whois registration records. film-tech.com has Brad and Scott's contact information in their whois registration records. Cineactive conceals their identity behind an anonymizer service.

I find that interesting; if I was a potential customer I would find it even more interesting.

Most companies don't post private identifying information in their registrations. There are a many reasons and few are for anything nefarious.

Actually, most corporations use their corporate address in their registrations.

Example: whois microsoft.com

Most individuals who are conducting business use their personal address since that's the only one that they have.

I find the absence of either to be interesting, as I said before. You are free to find it not interesting and, since I won't be purchasing software from them in any event, your opinion probably matters more to them than mine if you are in fact a prospective customer.

Don't worry about the WHOIS data, it's a legitimate Doremi spinoff. One of my personal contacts in the industry used to work at Doremi and is now employed there, among others.
