One of the power supplies quit it seams to still run ok despite the loud alarm and the notice I have a hardware issue which mentions the power supply. Is it safe to still use the unit until I can get a PS delivered. Anyone replace one of these before?

I found the PS replacement procedure on Dobly's site, looks easy enough.Still have the question is it safe to still use the server.

Replacing it is ridiculously easy. Push the lever and slide it out, then slap another one in.

You're not going to hurt anything by running on one power supply.

Thanks Brad. With the Holiday and now New Years it might take a little longer getting a replacement, glad to hear I can keep using it in the meantime.

That's the whole deal of having double PSUs. You can also put one on a UPS and the other one on a normal power outlet or a second UPS. That way, if the UPS fails, but the power stays on (which isn't totally unthinkable and has happened to me several times before), your server will also keep on running.

It would be great if they had something to kill that irritating alarm though. But maybe it's better it stays on, so people actually do something to remedy the situation. [Wink]

If you slide the bad supply out (just slightly is enough), the alarm will go away.

Yeah, that's true, as soon as you remove it (or slide it back as much so it isn't detected by the "back-plane" anymore) the alarm will stop.
