If any of you find folks is in need of a free and rather overwhelming suite of audio and video editing software, take a look at this:

AV-Linux

It comes as a live disk image that you can boot from DVD or thumb drive and use without having to actually install it on your computer. You can also install it onto your hard drive if you want to.

If you go with the live cd boot option, you can use it without interfering with your existing operating system (whatever it may be).

I have it running under Oracle Virtual Box on my computer.

Haven't played with it much yet but it looks like it'll do everything including putting out the cat.

Which version/file did you download from the ftp site, or did you use the bit torrent site?

I downloaded it using the bittorrent and ended up with this file:

avlinux6.0.3-xfce410-pae-i386-en.iso

I'm a little surprised at the lack of a 64-bit version. Everything they mention exists in 64-bit Debian so porting this would take almost no effort. The customized menus would remain unchanged and they'd simply enable the 32-bit architecture to allow installing the remaining software that isn't available in 64.

There is also lightworks a professional non linear editing suite that has Linux versions. Made by Hollywood editors.

AVLinux is $280 cheaper than lightworks (unless you're satisfied with 720p resolution).
