I'm installing a used dax602 and cannot get any surround output. The led signal indicators show a signal for left, center, right and sub channel but nothing for left or right surround. I tried this unit in 2 auditoriums with the same result so I am ruling out a server or wiring problem. I also reset factory settings by shorting the appropriate jumper inside of the 602 and clucking the power. Is there something I am missing?

The DAX-602 expects Ls/Rs on AES5/6 or pair 3. The DAX also has two DB25 connectors, one with the Dolby AES pin out, and another with the proposed (but never adopted) SMPTE pin out. Have you tried plugging into the other DB25? What server are you running? Is it possible to try switching AES pairs around (perhaps 1 and 3) to see if the problem stays on the same DAX input?
