Hi,

In the movie theatre that I work we have 6 barco projectors connected to doremi dcp2000 servers and 2 christie projectors connected to dolby dss200 servers.

While dcp 2000 servers can give automatic intermissons while movie is playing and then resume the movie (thanks to intermission playlist and macros), I need to manually give an intermission in dolby servers.

I was wondering if I can make the same dolby dss servers give automatic intermissions like doremi servers does. I don't need anything fancy like intermissions playlists right now, only pausing playback at a certain time, and resuming 10 minutes later would suffice.

There are several ways. You can use an external automation to pause/restart the player with suitable cues.

With System 4.8.x.x and beyond you can do it with their "Intermission" feature. To do what you ask merely create an "intermission" play list for the length you desire...10-minutes in your example...this can be with blanks or countdown clips or whatever you want, if you have them...then insert that intermission play list within your normal show at the point you want to create the intermission.

On the intermission play list, create whatever cues you need to bring lights up/down sound changes...etc.

Or even more simple: use the DB37 GPIO connector. Use a GPO to trigger "pause" (pin 22/3) or "stop" (pin 21/2).
To restart the show you have to hit play manually.

I did not offer that option this time since he was looking for an automatic 10-minute intermission. In other threads I've mentioned the "self-pause" option. That also does not address having other aspects like lights/sound raise/lower for the intermission unless they are also on the GPO...which is certainly possible since if they don't have a proper automation they have to be cuing those with something.

How responsive is the Dolby Intermission feature? Does it go straight to whatever is in the Intermission Playlist or is there a brief black screen?

It is instant, from what I can tell. Once you have set up the "Intermission Show"...it loads as a single composite play list with the break in the show at whatever time you insert it. It does not jump out of one show and back into the other.

The transition doesn't seem to differ from a regular DCP-to-DCP playlist item transition.

If you're going to use a real intermission playlist with actual content and not just a bunch of automation cues and a blank screen, make sure whatever is in that playlist matches the AR on screen.

If you're not using anamorphics, you can solve it like some cinemas around here do this: By creating some "universal aspect ratio content": Essentially all content is placed within a safe boundary which will not overshoot the edges of the screen even if it's zoomed into scope. Those locations don't usually play anything different than "flat" and "scope" and usually don't have any presets for other aspect ratios either.

While this solution is somewhat of a hack, it saves the hassle of creating all content (at least) twice and reduces the risk of a screwup while building playlists. It also avoids messing around with aspect ratio switches, which would be somewhat awkward for something like an intermission.

What you could do though, and this actually looks great... If you do have a curtain, close it and project a large countdown on the curtain. Just white on black. [Wink]

yazılım güncellemesinden sonra film arası ile ilgili 5 veya 10 dakikalık content hazırlayarak ara verebilirsiniz ama salon ısıklarının otomatik acılması ve kapanması için makineye yeni cue ler tanımlanması ve bi aparat takılması gerekiyo.

Yes, it can do.

The feature is located in the Automation section in the playlist editor and it's called just like you would expect: Intermission.

You can specify a sub-playlist, a lot like Dolby.
