Are perforated screens still being used in Theaters or have they moved on to weaves or some other type?

Perforated screens are still used. There may be other options available that I haven't heard of...haven't been in the market for a screen in about 4 years.

Plus, there is standard perf, and for home theatre use is the "microperf" - smaller hole variety.

Smaller theaters should also use microperf. Visible perforation is a major distraction.

Thanks for the info... I was in a discussion in another forum and everyone appeared to believe that weaved material was now being used in Commercial Theaters just like in Home setups. I didn't think it would be as no one sits close enough to see the perforations in a Commercial Theater.

People definitely do sit that close. We use micro perf screens in all 4 theaters.

I meant they don't sit close enough to warrant a weaved AT screen.

Safe to say that perforated screens make up almost all commercial movie theater applications.

It may be that woven screens can not be fabricated seamless to the size most commercial cinemas need. It is no problem nowadays to make invisible ultrasonic weldings on PVC screens, but I don't think they have similiar techniques for large woven screens. There may be other issues with them as well as the size grows.

Home cinema screens are usually smaller and no seaming is needed.

Very good possibility, as my 190" scope screen was about as big as I could get.

Actually a while ago I tried to inquire at ClearPix about their maximum woven screen size, but for some reason they didn't bother to answer but instead asked useless questions.

I've been on a dub stage with a woven screen. It's venue F in the SMPTE theater testing report. Acoustics are great. Almost no HF rolloff. I heard that they are limited in size due to loom size. Also, the woven screen transmits more light and reflects less. So, you need a bigger projector (but you can watch the movie behind the screen).
