We just tech checked the new Mad Max Trailer, and our CCAP [Yep, CCAP not OCAP] file put captions on our screen!

The Flat version of the trailer is fine, but the scope version displays captions. I called up Deluxe, but they sounded like I was taking crazy pills and asked me to get in contact with Sony to resolve this issue.

I exported the DCP and it contained a folder with the font's .ttf and Caption xml.

Is anyone else having this issue?

This happens more often in recent times. Did you check the other trailer as well for such files? Maybe the CCAPs were embedded by accident as OCAPs in that trailer.

The Doremi software recently has options to enable CCAPs to be shown as OCAPs, in case you want to display them but have no CCAP equipment. I know a few cinemas had this checked erroneously and were told to disable it again in order to get rid of it. Don't know about Sony. But it looks as if in this case Deluxe made the mistake.

Interesting issue! I did not see an indication as to the server/media block manufacturer. I see a portion of the CPL, but not enough of it to see the captions. I'm more familiar with the Resource Presentation List, which is created by the server from the CPL(s) that are going to be played. In an RPL, there is a ResourceType attribute. It is MainCaption for open on-screen captions. For Interop DCPs, it's MainClosedCaption for closed captions. It's ClosedCaption for SMPTE DCPs.

So, it would be interesting to see the remainder of the CPL or the RPL.

Harold, can you hint to any sample DCPs/CPLs with OCAP vs. CCAP?

This seems to happen on a Sony. Wether LMT or XCT, I don't know. Michael, can you specify, and indicate software version?

It would be interesting to compare the CPLs for the working and non-working versions. Looking at SMPTE ST 429-12-200, I see CPL extensions for ClosedCaption, ClosedSubtitle, and MainCaption. Closed, of course, indicates off-screen display, while Main indicates on-screen display. In addition, Interop allows for MainClosedCaption, which is an off-screen display.
