I've used some of their products over the past few years. While they aren't processor specific like the Odyssey stuff is they have all bases covered which Odyssey doesn't.

Pretty cool.

But remember, Odyssey will make most any breakout board one needs. They do custom stuff as well as standard. Sometimes it is just a matter of knowing that there is a need for a particular breakout or feature.

I've used quite a few on JSD-60 installations. Otherwise I generally just make up new cabling. I just hate soldering DB-25's. The Winfred stuff seems to work just fine.

Solder? Who said anything about solder? I crimp my DSubs. Better/faster, don't need a work surface or worry about where the iron is.

Are there any issues with using these for audio? I do not doubt that they would work fine for automation connectors and such, but wouldn't there be potential RF issues with solar cell signals and the like that would be prevented by using a proper connector with a metal hood?

If you think about every Dolby processor from the CP65 and earlier...they were essentially very large breakout boards!

Yes, I've done the crimp thing too. You get as good an electrical connection with crimp as you do with solder but it's a lot more "crimp" parts to carry with. Especially on a big job. I much prefer these break out boards and the cost of one vs labor to make up a cable is about a wash anyway. On a big job using the break out boards you come out ahead because they are cheaper in quantity. So I've stayed with using the break out boards...

I dunno...we can normally do a DB crimp as fast as a breakout board and our "travel" case for DBs is about the size of 11x17 paper and 3" deep. Not too much to carry around. Easier to dress cables into a DSub too. To each their own, I guess.

Does a board facing straight away from a processor stress the connector too much? Odyssey's sits flat.

We have used these boards for many years. The horizontal mount boards we dress to a lacing rod for support.
