Hi, all -

Long time reader, first time poster.

We've been using an NEC IS8-2K in our 49-seat house, which was a pretty good fit. Unfortunately, last week, it began to continually fail with "DLP PS", "Power Supply" and "Lamp Failure" errors shortly after the lamp was lit, during the initialization process.

We replaced the lamp, and also ran the projector off of a different circuit, so we're pretty confident that the error is truly a power supply error at this point.

I've contacted our standard AV vendor and the local NEC service center, and it sounds like we're out of luck in terms of any sort of conventional service. I'm also having trouble finding any used PS parts we might be able to swap. We've got a backup projector in place, but it doesn't quite give us the contrast that the iS8 did.

Is there anywhere we might still be able to find parts or service, or is this just too uncommon a projector too many years out?

Thanks!

There have been previous issues like the one you describe with this type of machine, and the outcome usually was that is is becoming extremely difficult to source spare parts for it. If this was a machine for a hobbyist, you could have it sitting around and wait for a spare part to turn up somewhere. But I guess you can't just wait for it.

Well, maybe your post chimes up some attention, and maybe someone has parts from defective machines lying around. I always wondered how long it would take to establish a pool of spare parts from machines out of service.

I would expect offers like this to turn up on the Film-Tech 'ForSale' Subforum some time.
