The Barco DP2K-6E appears to have two sets of GPIOs, one set on a D type connector on the cinema controller, and an RJ45 on the ICMP. Is there a right GPIO to use? Are there pros and cons??

The two RJ45:s on ICMP are for the playback server (play/stop/pause and latched/pulsed outputs), the DB37 is for the projector only.

i was in the same place as you. was trying to do automation on 2 barco projectors, but didn't know much about the GPIOs. so i made a connector for the db37 and the i discovered only the projector can work with them. for example, i can automate something when changing the presets on the projector buttons (flat, scope, etc...) but they are very limited.

for the one i wanted (light control) the RJ-45 GPO on the servers was the correct one.

made a macro for controlling the lights in sequence and reduce the volume a bit. and a minute before the credits start, a "wireless door bell" is activated, to warn the people that work there the movie is about to end.

works great so far. controlling everything manually was a pita for them. [beer]
