What is the best subjective sound test film to utilise for establishing speaker distortion, especially on the sub. At present am using the Hollywood test film on the Doremi but is there another more reliable that you use regularly ?

Dolby has channel ID, pink noise and channel sweeps for 5.1 and 7.1 on their customer portal site. They can be useful.

I use the "trick17" test clip from freedcp - it's got some problems but has pretty good test material. The main problem is that all audio is recorded very hot, at 0dB I think: the sweep is dangerous both to your ears and to speakers (it warns you to play it at "5" or below, do not play at "7"!) and has some annoying aliasing distortion at the very high end of the sweep - don't try to "fix" this distortion. The sub sweep test is quite useful for finding screen frame rattles. The image test stuff can be done better with test patterns IMO. The full system test track is at least something consistent to evaluate the full system.

The original poster asked about subjective test, which makes me think of program content. Moving to pink noise, the LSS-100P test content at http://ftp.uslinc.com/?dir=ftp/Products/LSS-100P/Software/TestContent has a variety of DCPs with three and four band limited pink noise on screen channels and full range pink noise on other channels. It also puts up a SMPTE peak white test rectangle on the screen along with text identifying the audio.
