Was there a version 2.16 firmware for this projector i have 2.11,bios is 1.02, also is there a setting that can be adjusted on many times it pings the server, i have a dss200 w/4.7.2. also can i put a off the shelf network switch in the projector maybe that is the problem, i'm still having the same problem were projector and server loose contact with each other, every once in awhile

2.11 was the last for the NC2500.

I suspect the TI Controller/GORE board. Alternately, the internal router or the equivalent of the PJDIV board (I'm not up on the series 1 NECs) I'm seeing a similar problem on a Barco series 1. If you check the logs, even the projector should see the lack of communication with the TI boards, indicating the problem is within the projector. The Dolby server is merely responding to the lack of communication. I would NOT go to System 4.8 with your configuration. I've seen an uptick in issues on series 1 systems. Mysterious CAT862 disconnections and other networking problems that I'm not seeing on the series 2 systems. 4.7.3.3 might be advisable. It is a reasonably good version of 4.7. The later stuff was for a possible CAT862 problem if you periodically get a white screen from the server that only a reboot fixes and TMS compatibility.

But the thing to look for are TI Execute errors in the logs and match them up on the projector and server side. I suggest making sure that everything is synchronized (Make sure the projector and TI times match and those match to the server.

In series 1, TI handled MUCH more of the I/O than on series 2. Also, see if your 292B errors are high...there are mods to the TI Controller (removal of some capacitors) that will lower them (GORE board shouldn't be affected since they incorporate the mods).

I don't know what version is current, don't have time to look right now.
You can't use a commodity switch, the projector router/switch is on one of the boards.
I would reseat all the boards, but that's usually my first thing to try when projectors go weird. If it has the coated "gore" board be very very gentle with that one, not touching the black stuff is best.
Steve's good suggestion of syncing the clocks is not a "fix" to the issue, it lets you compare the logs directly to see if communication errors happen internally in the projector at the same time as the DSS is crapping out.
