Dear Film Techies,

I am a software developer working on a high performance open source JPEG 2000 codec.

Grok can be used as a drop-in replacement for OpenJPEG,
but it is significantly faster. Currently, it gets around 1/3 the performance of the Kakadu toolkit, and I am aiming for performance parity over the next year.

I am interested in learning more about the pain-points of the post production workflow. How important is speed for DCP packaging? With 4K, High Dynamic Range and High Frame Rate entering the picture, are the current encoders fast enough to handle these big jumps in the amount of data that needs to be compressed ?

Any insight here would be greatly appreciated.
