I saw the prequel Ouija movie tonight, and the digitally presented showing featured a pair of changeover cues every 15 minutes or so. And they were shaped anamorphically as well (this feature was 1.85). What possible point was there to this?

It makes it more "FILM" like.

Just like they put dirt and scratches in video images to make them look like film.

Don't forget those terrible ads where the count down leader is shown, like the operator missed a cue.

Film will always be berated for its imperfections rather than praised for any of its benefits.

They do it just to amuse old changeover projectionists, like myself,
who start getting nervous every 18-20min while watching a movie
if we don't see a cue mark. .

It's condition called "PTDS" (Post Digital Theater Syndrome )

I've tried medication, but it doesn't help...

Back in the '60's working an art house, I always inspected the films esp. for proper cues. We have all run across cues made with a punch, scratch tool, whatever.

I ran across one set that had been scratched in but in an oval shape. This was so clueless but maybe the person who did it wanted to acknowledge it was scope. Sounds like the same thing here.

Actually, I believe that I ran that title in 35mm for the Riverside Saginaw Film Festival at the Court Theatre here in Saginaw.
