It seems these warnings can usually be solved with a reboot/repower of the projector.

Just wondering that it seems they only occur on NEC projectors? Do they hint at something, or is it just the usual type of complex electronics hickup? It seems none of the NEC software updates ever got rid of them.

Could be a bogus router, that is the most common failed part in an NEC. You will see this "DLP Comm Fail" warning very briefly if there is a GDC server & IMB connected to it running 8.XX Firmware. Once the server's IMB establishes communication with the T.I. stuff the error automatically clears. You will see the lights on top briefly go red then green again and it is a normal part of the boot process. I can't speak as to weather a Dolbly IMB based server does this or not.

Nope, that is a GDC exclusive "feature."

As to CommE failure, that is normally Ethernet based. So it could be the router, any of the ethernet cables to the backplane or even the dreaded card reseat.

Did the projector also throw out a number with the CommE?

We had this error last week on a 1200c coupled with a strong electrical fire smell, and the screen looking like a broken phone or tv screen.

Unbelievably a reboot got it back up on screen an it's been fine ever since.

The magic of digital.

There is no way to use the projector or wait for it to clear by itself. We always seem to need a full power off. Well, 'always', it happened three times in two years...
It's an early NC900C. It only happens at boot time, never after it has started up alright.

520 : IMB:ICP Communications Status
584 : IMB:Marriage NOT Active
586 : IMB:Service Door Tamper

I am getting these error codes on an NC1200c. Tried power cycle and reseating cards and ethernet cables. Same issue. There are no LED's lighting on any card except the IMB. Any thoughts?

Yes, the tamper clears but the IMB will not remarry...

Remote connection to the projector keeps going in and out, if that is relevant. (DCC software)

Your problem is the lack of communication with the ICP. You indicate that it isn't light up. So either it isn't getting power (Check the LVPS) or the ICP itself. Be aware too, something else may be sucking down on of the low-voltage rails preventing the ICP from booting. Ruling out the ICP module is simple enough by moving it to another projector.

Note, it is the security manager's job for reporting security issues. That is either going to be the Enigma or the IMB. So, when the IMB doesn't see the ICP or doesn't get the all-clear from the ICP, it will report and maintain a security breach. So though the IMB is reporting the error, it doesn't mean the IMB is the cause, it is just the messenger (and gatekeeper). It is upset that the ICP isn't right, in your case, based the message presented.

Don't forget the GDC external media block servers will briefly throw a comm failure and turn the tail lights red whilst booting up. But this only lasts for a few seconds, and as booting continues the comm warning clears and the tail lights turn green again.
