After replacing some power amps and rewiring the rack a bad thing happened. I powered everything up. First JSD-100 and then the amps one by one. Then generating pink noise from JSD-100 and gently turn up the amps, all channels sounded OK. A quick walk around the auditorium with nothing playing to listen for hum and other inaccuracies (this was a mix of old balanced and unbalanced amps), nothing from the speakers that caught my ear.
When preparing my D2 a loud speaker pop came from the autitorium. No good. After carefully yanking all cables and connections more noise occured when I reached the wiring around the JSD-100.
The power cord in the JSD-100 wasn't properly seated! Sloppy work, but no one to blame but me. OK, good, let´s go to work I thought. But no.
Pink noise from JSD-100 now sounded garbeled and distorted. After a cold restart of the JSD-100 it was stuck in bypass. I tried to replace the power supply (i had a ECI-60 in my car, same supply) but no luck.
Any ideas here?

Have had zero failures of any JSD-100's and over 250 installed. The remainder were JSD-60 of which I have had one failure.

Sorry to hear about the issue! The JSD-100 powers up in bypass, then switches out of bypass when hardware initialization is complete. If that does not complete, the unit stays in bypass. I'm assuming you see an indication of bypass on the front panel (flashing bypass LED). It's possible that the momentary power interruption resulted in corrupted flash memory in the microcontroller. The firmware has to go through a fairly complex sequence to write to flash, so it SHOULD not happen by accident. But, accidents happen.

I suggest seeing if you can restore the factory firmware. Do this by turning off the power, then holding down the Digital 16 and User 2 buttons. Keep holding the buttons down, and turn on the power. The front panel LEDs should start flashing. Release the buttons once the LEDs are flashing. When the LEDs stop flashing, the microntroller should reset and start operating with the original firmware. If that works, you should be able to connect to the unit and, if needed, update to the current firmware. And this was not an ordinary job at some boring shopping mall multiplex. It was me just trying to be a nice guy helping an art house cinema out for free on my spare time.

Talk about completely worthless information (true or not). The man had a problem and you offer NOTHING to help.

No luck I'm afraid. The bypass LED starts flashing 1-2 seconds after powerup. Holding buttons 4 + 6 doesn't change that behaviour.
CP65 until further notice then :-(
At least there are no PIC:s or hex files in that unit. Only dead flies.

Well, this is how it looks for now. Let's hope the JSD-100 gets back after treatment at Harold's place.
At least I can repair this old friend with my bare hands if it breaks down. Or get another one from the attic.
