I have a couple DSS200 units that show no video signal going to the monitor. There is something wrong with the servers (besides this video issue) but I won't have a chance to understand without viewing progress on a monitor. The VGA monitor and cord function correctly so, is there a video chip on the motherboard at fault? Nothing appears to be otherwise disconnected. [Confused]

VNC is going to be your best bet. And download Advanced IP scanner and use it to see if the unit is even on line at all. It may just be that the mother board is not even booting at all in which case there would be no video or network...

SSH is a secure shell....

SSH = secure shell - a method of sending commands and receiving responses from another computer on a local area network.

We're trying to figure out if it's just the VGA output that is bad, or if there is a bigger problem.

SSH and VNC (Virtual Network Computing - similar to SSH, but allows you to operate a graphical user interface remotely, in this case Dolby Show Manager) are two ways in which you can communicate with the DSS200 from another PC on the network.

As Mark suggests, you could also ping the DSS200's IP address (auditorium or theater, depending on how it's set up) from a PC on the network. If it answers the ping, it has booted and is at least running the LAN card drivers OK. If it doesn't, that suggests that it isn't booting. Likewise, if you try to connect to it using a VNC (I like Tight VNC, but there are lots of perfectly good ones) or SSH client program and it responds, this will enable you to see if the server is working properly in all respects except the VGA output.

May sound daft but are you connecting to the front panel VGA socket, if you are is the short link cable on the rear of the unit present ?
