Hi,

I've recently been asked to take over an existing project which includes the NEC NC-900c and Dolby DSS-220 server. The system is currently being controlled by a Crestron control system. We need to make some changes to their Crestron program and we don't have a copy of the original code. So I am tasked with writing a new control program for this system. From what I've researched so far it looks like you only have play, stop and pause controls to an external control system. Is anyone able to confirm this and if so if there a standard protocol document for these commands?

The input cues that the DSS220/cat745 will accept are:

Start
Pause
Stop
Input = server (i.e. DCP playback)
Input = HDMI1 (the left hand HDMI jack on the cat745)
Input = HDMI2 (the right hand HDMI jack on the cat745)

If your DSS200 is on version 4.8 or earlier of Show Manager, it can only accept these cues via serial (RS232) input. If it is on 4.9, it can accept them via IP as well. If you're on a pre-4.9 version and would like to upgrade your DSS220, email cinemasupport [at] dolby.com.

There is a PDF document that walks you through setting up the cues, which I'm sure that they could send you.

That would be great if you could send that to me. Does it include the command you would use to recall the cues from the automation system?

The documents do say "Unauthorized use, sale, or duplication is prohibited," so I'd feel more comfortable if you asked Dolby for them at the email address above. In the release notes for all the 4.9 variants, there is a section that describes the IP automation feature. The document "Dolby Digital Cinema Serial Automation, Version 1.3" does likewise for serial automation.
