I was just asked and didn't know the answer - were the standard DCPs for Captain Marvel 2K or 4K? Anyone able to confirm?

Interestingly, the only 4K films in wide release right now are Greta and Dragged Across Concrete.

This contains mostly VFX boosted footage - who needs 4k for that?

Even on a lot of productions that are stated as being native 4K the CGI is often rendered at 2K and then up-rezzed. They're still doing that despite the giant gains in computer rendering horsepower. All the performance improvements are just directed at rendering 2K even faster.

Thats a shame Bobby and doesn't surprise me. Its amazing how big the budget is for paying actors yet most corners cut in many other areas. I guess there has to be a cutoff but still.

It might have been 2K, but at the Dolby Cinema where I saw it, it looked damned good. Would it have looked better if it had been completely rendered in 4K? The truth is, I don't know. Maybe if it was even sharper, it would have started to look hyper-real like HFR does and IMO, that wouldn't have been good.

I know with UHD BD discs the ones that are done with a 4K digital intermediate look head and shoulders better then the ones from a 2K digital intermediate. They are few and far between so far. Im sure a DCP would be the same.
