Hey everyone!

Another fun week at the theaters. Last night, during the credits of our final showing of Hobbs and Shaw, the playback suddenly stopped. We went upstairs to discover that the GDC server was failing to connect to the SM, and the projector was reading two errors; lost connection to IMB, and LVPS DC power critical. We also smelled a faint electric burning by where the LVPS is located. After a hard reboot, the LVPS error went away, but our IMB is currently completely inaccessible, we have not tried to swap it into another projector yet, and since Christie tech was closed today, we haven't had the chance to order a new LVPS, on account of the burning smell coming from it's general area. Any thoughts on this? Thank you!

You're still not getting the LVPS DC power critical error after multiple reboots of the projector? It's somehow strange that this error showed up the first time but not on consecutive boots. I hope it isn't a shortcut in the IMB that eventually fried the LVPS.

The IMB's are fused. So in theory that should not happen. I'd bet it's still a LVPS problem and not until voltages are read with a DVM will he realize that. The LED's on the side of the IMB can also indicate a problem, and tell a story, so what exactly are they doing?

You can try swapping the server and IMB into another projector. Note that with the GDC DCI compliant software the IMB are married to the server and can not be swapped interdependently.

I don't know the specifics of the GDC IMB, but the Christie IMB S2 seems to be fused on the output side of the power circuitry and not on the input side.

Still, you'd expect the monitoring circuitry to detect a missing power output on the LVDS and report it accordingly...

A) Christie LVPS are not known for their robustness so I can believe it has a failure of some sort.

B) Based on your description, I can easily believe that the IMB had an issue and tried to over-current the LVPS (which should also prevent its own self-destruction).

My gut, based on your description, is that the IMB is the culprit.

Steve, you've saved my bacon more times than I can count on here. It was indeed the IMB, looks like the old thing just fried. We got it replaced, and after getting Deluxe to send us a new batch of compatible keys, we got on screen! Our third projector, another CP2210 is now giving us the headaches, a few weird things at shutdown where instead of entering standby mode, the Projector display screen will black out and reboot as though we entered a complete power cycle, and sometimes, upon getting to work in the morning, will say that the PIB failed and needs a power cycle. So, just a bad week for the Christie's it seems. Thank you all again!

Have the IMB batteries ever been repolaced? They are only good for about 5 years...

Christie PIBs are a weak point too. One of the later software versions is supposed to improve that though.
