Hi. Trying to understand DCP captions. Is it correct that Closed Captions are only ever visible with special hardware (e.g. Dolby CaptiView), and cannot be made visible without said hardware? Or is there a way to "enable" Closed Captions so they are visible to everyone in the theater? (Probably not relevant, but using Christie CP4230 projectors w/ Christie IMB-S2 in some houses, Dolby DSS200 & Barco DP2K-15C in another.)

It is possible to enable an option for the subtitle engine on Doremi and Dolby IMS servers for to display the subtitles on the main screen when playing CCAP content. There may be a way to do it on the Christie as well, not so sure about the DSS200.

Surely if you were playing CCAP and wanted to play subtitles for some shows you would just use the OCAP version instead?

On the Doremi, I'm reasonably certain I've seen the option to show the CCAP as open Captions. I haven't done it, personally, but I'm reasonably certain I've seen that option in the configuration.

Thanks for the responses. Matt, I would indeed choose OC if available. A situation came up with a one-night show of an indie movie where we only had one version of the DCP and it was CC. I was being asked to "turn on the captions", but was at a loss about what to do. Sounds like "enabling CC for everyone" is not an option with my set-up, and OC would be needed. Appreciate the help!
