This movie was shot in 1:1.75 , an aspect ratio still sometimes used in French films. Maybe it was cropped to 1:1.85 to make it more compatible with the US market. But I can tell you when it played in Germany, many people thought it was 1:1.85 and they had a really hard time making the frame fit with the subtitles!

1.66, you mean ("European widescreen"). Hard-matted except for credits. 1.75 is Disney animation, 1.85 is "American widescreen." With exceptions all over the place, of course.

No, I meant 1:1.75 . Still sometimes used in France. Interestingly, I once ran Vietnamese prints from the 80s and 90s which were all in this format. The leaders all had French markings on them - apparently a rudiment of the time when Vietnam was a French colony.
