Jeffry: Those are all pretty short reels. Is there a good reason they seem to have been edited that way? Certainly it could have fit on only six reels, so there must be a reason it was edited that way.

All of the Studio Ghibli films I've seen average about 15 minutes per reel--I think it might be some sort of standard for them.

For Jeffry: Is there no DTS timecode on the English print? The Japanese version had both SR-D EX and DTS (ES) tracks.

Warning on print 148 (TES 00148), reels 4 and 5 will probably not play in digital since SR-D was printed out of frame.

The film may have temporarily jumped a sprocket in the printer soundhead. Surprised the other tracks weren't affected too (if the sound negative and print stock are not in good contact, bits will be smeared or unsharp, and the analog sound will lose high frequencies). Hope you got replacement reels.

The analog sound was actually OK, for Kintek's version of Dolby A. We did have to slightly reframe for those two reels though.

Paul reported that the Japanese prints were Dolby EX and DTS ES. why was the American prints SRD only? I can understand that the English dubbed prints can be in SRD but what about the Japanese language versions shown in North American theatres with English subtitles? Are they in EX and ES?

There is at least one (laser-)subtitled print (#00001) that has a DTS track and is EX. It is in reasonable condition.
