I can't remember if they are full frame 1.33 or not, but I do want to say that they are. The movie might be 1.85 if it was shot that way, but I am positive these are not the 1.33 within the 1.85 frame thing. The soundtrack is mono.

Remember the original release was VistaVision. So maybe 1:85.

Then that's what it was. All I remember is that I did not have black bars on the sides and that the colors on the reprint were very nice with clean audio.

Information about VistaVision and "White Christmas":

here "The finders on the VistaVision cameras carry a hairline framing marking in the aspect ratio of 1.66/1. There will also be a frame line marking for the 1.33/1 aspect ratio. The cameramen are instructed to compose for a loose (meaning adequate head-room) 1.66/1 picture. A picture composed in this way will play equally good at 1.85/1, it will play very satisfactorily at 2/1 and it can be played at the old standard of 1.33/1."
I would interpret this as saying that the images were composed for 1.66:1, but should look "equally good" at today's 1.85:1.
I do not know if the new prints are "hard matted", which might limit the showing to a wider aspect ratio.

I still remember seeing "WHITE CHRISTMAS" at the long defunct King Theatre in downtown Honolulu during it's first run in 1954. Because "WHITE CHRISTMAS" was the very first VistaVision picture, I still remember how vibrant the picture and the color was after the 35mm film was printed from a larger negative source. The print I saw was a dye transfer and I am sure, almost all VistaVision color prints were presented this way at all theatrrical venues. The DVD of this movie is wonderful with excellent color but it still does not come close to what I remember seeing in the theatre.-Claude

Full Frame (Vistavision) Playing this in 1.66:1 - 1.85 would cut off credits at the beginning and feet and/or heads during the dance numbers.
7 Reels (reel 7 is short)
Reel #1 says SR
Reels 2-7 say Stereo
We're playing this in Dolby A as SR didn't sound correct.
Excellent print tho focus is very soft.
EDIT: Even at 1.66 it's a fine adjustment to be sure feet and heads aren't cropped out - and the opening credits are barely completely visible top to bottom. This would definately look bad at 1.85 and forget about 2:1. I'll have to check out the dvd when I get home tonight.

Just played Print Number 01000. This Print is hacked. Playable
but very cut up. missing some footage at end of reel 1.
