There are many printings of this floating around. There are only 2 audio options...
Mono
Dolby SR (with a terrible remix by "Chase surround sound") These prints were done around 1990. There is a thread in the archives detailing the history.

Original prints were Dolby Format 02, A-Type Mono.

Brad, RHPS is SIX reels.
Also, in addition to the two differing sound formats, there are also two different reel 6's:
One has the 'Super Heroes' song, the other does not.
All of the SR prints have the 'Super Heroes' song
Most of the US mono prints did not. (there are a few rare mono prints that do have 'Super Heroes' on them, however)
Prints struck at either DeLuxe Hollywood or Rank Film Labs (now DeLuxe London)
Besides Fox/ETS, RHPS is available thru Criterion Pictures (and IMO have far better prints than the Fox depot)

I've always run this 1.66:1 as it's hard matted in that ratio. Taking a look at IMDB (I know-not reliable, but...) it lists it as 1.66:1 Negative ratio and 1.85:1 intended ratio. The dvd is 1.66:1 as well.

When Rocky Horror ran in Adelaide, the only prints available were mono optical, they were well used.

AFAIK, the only 'new' print in Oz was the one HOYTS bought in for their weekly midnight screenings about 10 years ago. In true form, the new print had a nice black scratch right down the middle from start to finish only three weeks into the season. Remember, these were midnights so MAXIMUM of 5 screenings had been run.
This print has the Science Fiction ending. Original prints in Australia had the Time Warp ending. Science Fiction ending is much, much better.

John, do you remember the ending of the RHPS, where the sound slowed right down and wowed at the end of the credits?
Must concur with your comments re the black scratch on the new print.

Films are usually not hard matted to the intended ratio—it's usually the ratio below what the suggested ratio is (e.g. 1.5-1 for 1.66-1 films).
What is the thinking that this was anything other than 1.85-1, which was quickly becoming even a British standard?
